it's interesting how the lyrics reflect the music in terms of the chords... ie. the minor fall(he goes to a minor chord) major lift etc.

Where do you get that this is a "Christian" song???? Do you ever READ that Christian Bible of yours? This is taken from Psalms!!! Last I heard they were attributed to King David who lived at least 1000 yrs BEFORE Jesus. On top of that, the verse I quoted has more to do with Leonard's singing his own song than they do anything Biblical. Please don't call this song CHRISTIAN! Cohen is Jewish!

i am really sorry if i offended you by calling it a christian song? however the reason i asked was sorely so i could understand the song better, whether its about religion, love, or whatever people believe in. I am Christian and I just assumed the song was about God as well. I am really sorry, i mean I didnt even know who Leonard Cohen was until today so I was only trying to do sort of research about the song. Hope you understand where I am coming from.

lilifyre,i guess in your infinite wisdom,you forgot to actually read the bible,or at least read up on it,the Christian bible contains the old teastament and the new testament,christianity existed before Jesus,so saying that something that existed before Jesus isnt christian is just wrong,also a note for your tiresome mind,Jesus wasnt a christain,he was Jewish.
Also these verses are from the book of Samuel and the book of Judges.

Dear "Prince" and Nitajay, I am offended by your assumption that Christianity is the only valid religion. I'm really tired of so-called Christians claiming everything Biblical.
Prince, Iknow Jesus was a Jew. The 1st part of what Christians call the Bible is the Jewish holy literature. The Torah is the 1st 5 books attributed to Moses. The Psalms and the rest of what you term the "Old Testament" makes up the rest of the Hebrew Bible. That part isn't Christian.

Prince, where do you get that Christianity existed before Jesus? Actually it didn't exist until AFTER his crucifixion. The books of Samuel and Judges are Jewish scripture. Anyway, this song is NOT Christian. It may have Biblical references, but it definitely is NOT CHRISTIAN!

Prince, I don't want a holy war with you here. I'd be glad to debate religion with you in an approriate forum. I'm very tired of Christians claiming everything. When something is pre-Christian it is NOT Christian. That's what is meant by "PRE-Christian. I don't like many versions of this song because I don't feel they grasped the emotion in it. And the emotion I mean is that shown Rufus Wainwright's and Jeff Buckley's versions. Although, they are completely different to Leonard's version and of course he wrote it, so maybe it was me who got it wrong! But of course it's opinion. I must say I don't like this version at all but big respect to Leonard Cohen for writing it and all his other fantastic songs!
